Before becoming a bestselling writer and one half of the Vlogbrothers, John was: a “gifted” kid turned “bad” kid, a boarding school teenager reeking of cigarette smoke, a religion and English major, a hospital chaplain/would-be minister, a data entry clerk at a publishing house, and a young writer learning how to be vulnerable on the page. John reflects on how great teachers, curiosity-driven learning, and the liberal arts helped him rediscover a love of learning, and how that process ultimately led him to find his voice as a writer.
